WE’RE HERE TO HELP

For many parents and guardians whose children participate in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, it’s their very first time. They may have heard of Big Brothers Big Sisters but aren’t sure of their role as a parent or how they can be an ally to both their child and their child’s mentor.

As a result, we offer a special training session for parents at the beginning of each mentorship and advice along the way.

PURPOSE OF PARENT TRAININGS

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest, we don’t simply connect Bigs to Littles. We do our due diligence and make deliberate matches, backed by ongoing support for the Big, the Little, and the Little’s families. One of our primary ways of providing that support is offering a Parent Training Course to the child’s parents/guardians.

During this training, we set expectations for the mentorship experience. Your role is to be an ally to your child and their mentor. We go over standards and guidelines for the mentorship program. We also discuss common situations that families face and how to navigate those scenarios.

Each training session takes about an hour and gives parents of children in our program the tools and knowledge to navigate the mentorship experience.
