Big Brothers Big Sisters Receives Historic Donation

On May, 24, 2022, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America announced receipt of its largest gift ever received: $122.6 million from MacKenzie Scott.

While Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest is not one of the 38 direct beneficiaries of this gift, this is yet another major validation for our mission!!!

Read below for the text of the announcement and/or watch the clip from this morning’s Today Show with BBBSA’s CEO, Artis Stevens. As Artis says, 1 of every 3 kids in our nation lacks a positive, sustaining mentor in their life. This gift is transformative. It will help to make mentoring more accessible to those who could benefit. MacKenzie Scott and her team recognize the value of formal mentoring and acknowledge the effectiveness of our unique model with this gift.

Collectively, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ agencies have more than 30,000 kids ready and waiting to be matched with a mentor. Locally, we have more than 50 kids ready and waiting right now. No one person or agency can do this work alone. This is another invitation to engage and support our work, as mentors, as donors, as advocates. We all need to step up and do what we can to empower potential among our community’s youth!
