Community Engagement Specialist
LOCATION: Main office, located at 1912 N Division St, Spokane, WA 99207; M – F, regular business hours, occasional nights and weekends
PAY: $21 – $24 per hour, DOE
BENEFITS: Paid time off for Vacation, Holidays, and Sick Leave. Medical, dental, and life insurance coverage. 3 percent match to Simple IRA retirement plan after 12 months of employment.
JOB SUMMARY:
Essential Functions, Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Generate new volunteer leads through research, networking, outbound calls, referrals from current volunteers, and contact with program alumni.
- Prepare written scripts to be used in email and phone-based outreach to prospective volunteers.
- Collaborate with external partners to promote volunteer outreach.
- Represent BBBS INW at community outreach events to support volunteer recruitment.
- Deliver volunteer recruitment presentations to a mix of audiences in different settings, including virtual and in person.
- Respond to inbound calls from prospective volunteers, caretakers, and other parties interested in enrolling youth.
- Serve as expert using our Customer Relationship Management platforms (Salesforce): document notes, activities, follow up tasks; produce useful reports for Program Director; utilize automation features to enhance volunteer experience and accelerate volunteer onboarding.
- Provide high-quality customer service in the volunteer and caretaker/child enrollment process while executing a high degree of independent judgment in accordance with the BBBS standards of service to meet annual new match goals.
- Promote successful outcomes in new matches, match quality, documentation quality, processing time, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate paperwork and data entry into the agency CRM for each participant, according to agency standards, including completing necessary surveys.
- Identify and eliminate any barriers interfering with the completion of the enrollment process.
- Manage customer onboarding experience tools (Volunteer Journey Accelerator) to support efficient volunteer onboarding to maximize volunteer conversions.
- Conduct enrollment for volunteers, children, and caretakers, including individual orientations, background screenings, interviews, trainings, and completion of enrollment processes.
- Maintain working knowledge of alternative or additional services and refer families to such services as needed.
- Coordinate with local schools to support site-based mentoring programs.
- Provide timely and comprehensive recommendations for participation in the program based upon enrollment information and assessments of each potential match participant.
- Lead match assessments in collaboration with program team to make match recommendations.
- Collaborate with other service delivery staff to ensure smooth transition from onboarding to active match.
- Facilitate new match meetings.
- Support BBBS INW’s program events and other duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.
Required Qualifications & Skills

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercising good judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Microsoft Office apps
- Salesforce CRM or similar
- Digital meeting platforms
- Ability to satisfactorily complete multi-layered background check once an offer of employment has been tendered
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or substantial related work experience
- JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) capable communication skills

- Position is primarily located at Big Brothers Big Sisters’ office (1912 N Division St). With flexibility to work remotely one day per week, as determined in conjunction with supervisor. General schedule to reflect conventional business hours Monday – Friday.
- Some local travel is required; occasionally working nights and weekends for special events, training or client support.
- Physical demands: while performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
